Unique Liveries

Its been a while since I've updated the site but thought I'd post the start to this topic, It'll be updated as time permits, but here is the start to it.
Unique & small run liveries of Diesel & Electric locomotives in the Government Era 1951-1997 (pre mass privatisation of the state systems)
QGR (QR)
1965 - QR Centenary Livery applied to 1281 & 1461
Similar to the standard QR Blue/grey livery although Gold replaced the blue.

1988 - Australian Bicentennial livery applied to 1723, 2401 & 3136
A number of state systems chose selected locomotives to be painted up for the Australian Bicentennial Celebrations, QR chose 3 units. The livery was mostly white with Green & yellow lining.

NSWGR (NSWR, SRA, Freight Rail)
1970 - Indian Pacific Livery applied to 4436, 4440, 4442 & 4457
A scheme was designed and was a simified version of the then standard Indian red for use on the Indian Pacific the new transcontinental train, although they were not used on this new train, and shortly afterwards repainted back to the standard livery.
1980 - 125th Aniversary of the NSWGR 1955-1980, 2 units were selected by the Railway workshops 4201 at Chullora & 4836 at Cardiff.
These 2 units were painted in a Green & Yellow livery for the celebrations. 4836 retained this livery till after passing into private hands in 1994 & 4201 still carries a variation of this scheme in Preservation at the NSWRTM Thirlmere.

Locomotive Livery Profiles – SRA Candy Livery
The newly established State Rail Authority of NSW and been formed in 1981 superseding the former NSWR, they wanted a new image mainly brought on by the success of the visual impact that the XPT had on the public, the SRA wanted something similar of all their trains.
In late 1981, the SRA appointed ‘Phil Belbin’ to the project of designing this new image, under the direction of the Chief Executive ‘David Hill’ & the chief mechanical engineer ‘John Brew’, work commenced on designing and ironing out a new livery with a good visibility safety level.
Finally after 120 colour concepts were prepared and narrowed down to the chosen livery, known as the Candy livery (or other names Belbin or lollipop)
The scheme was an all over red body with a thin yellow stripe atop a thicker orange stripe atop a White stripe, with black under gear, and initially a silver roof (later grey, white, then all over red depending on the class).
The 1st item of rollingstock to see the light of day in this new livery was Economy class a/c carriage SFS2277 painted at Eveleigh Carriage Works in Mid July 1982.
The livery was officially released at 11.30am on 17th August 1982 at the public unveiling held on platform5 of Sydney Terminal – 44100, FH2230, SFS2277, TFX1935, MHS819, MHO2636 were displayed on this day.
The Candy scheme lasted as the main livery till 1992 when replaced by the Freight Rail blue livery, although from 1988 a simplified version known as the red terror livery emerged from Cardiff workshops applied to 4469, this scheme omitted the yellow & orange stripes, thus reducing the amount of time required to paint the units, and was used mainly on non front line locomotives (44, 45, 48, 49 classes), other locos of the 422, 442, 80, 81’s continued to receive the full candy livery.
During the 10 years that the Candy livery was the prominent livery the following locomotives carried this scheme.

Locomotive Livery Profiles = NSWR Reverse Livery

The New South Wales Railways introduced a modified version of the original Indian livery in 1979 (1st loco was 4479) in an effort to improve locomotive visibility, this new livery was known as the Reverse or yellow ended livery, which involved and all over Indian red body with yellow ends, with the yellow extending around the sides of the units to usually either the cab windows or door, this yellow area being broken up by the application of the wings in indian red seen prior on the original livery in yellow, the livery extended to Railcars aswell. This livery didn't last long being replaced by the SRA Candy livery from 1982.

In the NR's and AN's I've decided to list the GSR liveried units aswell as these were painted while in PN ownership (IP-Y = the new 2011 yellow version of the Indian Pacific Livery, IP-B = the original Blue Indian Pacific Livery, GH = the original Red Ghan livery, SS = the Southern Spirit Green & Silver livery).
PN Class
PN001, PN002, PN003, PN004, PN005, PN006, PN007, PN008, PN009, PN010, PN011, PN012, PN013

Also I'll mention that there are 6 x MKA class & 1 x ZP class painted in the PN livery in Tasmania although these 7 units are no longer owned by PN. Also 3 additional G class were painted in PN livery although these were sold off to SCT (G532, 533, 535)

As can be seen by the above list quite a few locos do carry the livery although is still only a small portion of the total number of locomotives owned by Pacific National.

Classes owned by PN that do not yet have a member painted as of yet are

82 Class (55 units), PL class (7 units), A Class (7 units), P Class (5 units), V class (1 unit), Y Class (15units)

A welcome i guess

Everyone else seems to be setting up blogs in this hobby, either as an out let of frustrations or to show off their creative flares.
I thought I'd set one up to. And here it is. YAY
Now what to base this around, no idea, i guess i'll just post up regular updates of what I believe to be interesting at the time and when I remember that this is here.
